SWAN BEAUTY / Aura Design System
As the lead and sole designer behind Aura, I began building SWAN Beauty’s design system from the ground up, creating the foundational structure and starting the first mobile component library for both current and future product experiences. The system is still a work in progress, but so far I have established the foundations, token architecture, and initial mobile components while also identifying weaknesses in the existing system to create a more scalable and maintainable structure.

Building the Case for a Design System
Before a single token was built, the team needed to be aligned on the fundamentals. I led a cross-functional presentation with designers, developers, and stakeholders to establish a shared understanding of what a design system is, why SWAN was worth investing in, and what it would take to build it right. Getting that buy-in early wasn't a formality — it was the foundation that made everything else possible.

Creating Tokens
I started by building the foundation of the design system, including primitive, alias, and mapped tokens structured to stay scalable and adaptable for future B2B mirror experiences. Mapped token categories included surface, border, text, and icon, alongside responsive typography collections with defined type sizes and line heights for consistency across the UI.

Beginning of component creation
I am currently building out the essential mobile components first to establish alignment with the development team and create a strong foundation before expanding the system further. This process also allows me to test foundational tokens within real product designs to evaluate how well they translate to the brand direction and overall experience I am aiming to create. Through iterative testing and refinement, I am shaping the system to be both scalable and visually aligned with the future of the product.
